About the works
The installations “Connections” represent neuronal cells that make connections with anonymous books, arranged in such a way that they don’t show the cover, but their totality.
As it really happens in nature, the closer you get to “knowledge” the more neurons increase in both size and connections, up to the largest neuron that makes synapses with the pages of a book.
It is a hymn to knowledge and existence itself. Art praises culture and vice versa. Both are essential because they can help man to observe, to reflect and to have full self-awareness itself.
So, knowledge, represented by the written word, is placed at the apex of the structure, as it is something that must always be pursued, be supported, be protected. Communication in all of this is fundamental, and the artist feels a strong need to get in touch with the other, because the certainty of being able to establish also an only point of contact means immense hope of liberation from cosmic solitude.
The artist tries to overcome his existential discomfort trough art. The act of creating in fact relieves him from the difficulties of everyday life and becomes increasingly necessary and therapeutic. Only art and culture can save the world.
The work “You can’t make Blood” is a true hymn to life. The title reminds us that blood can’t be reproduced and, in an allusive way wants to urge us to donate, that is the only possibility to perpetuate the life. Red corpuscles float and enhance the importance of the precious fluid, source of existence itself. The matter, after being shaped, becomes vital energy, ready to renew itself incessantly.
The allegory behind the installation “Target” is evident. Two cigarettes take the form of a double-barrelled shotgun and other already smoked are piled up. A smoker, even though aware that he is an easy target in front of a firing squad, smokes with arrogant air. The vision alone would evoke scenarios of death and mass destructions.
The artist himself, as a retaliation, performs an act of destruction-creation, reducing to smithereens the cigarettes needed for the realization of the work. In fact, the inside of the two shotgun barrels is full of real tobacco, made from many destroyed cigarettes donated by smoking friends. The cigarette/shotgun encloses, reveals and fires a pain alarm.
The “Casket” is a work full of evocative emphasis. Simple objects of daily life become emotional values, because they are precious guardians of the past. A necessary past, which inevitably belongs to us and accompanies us in everyday life.
Memory is one of the main cognitive process of man and consists in the ability to store information and to retrieve them in the form of memories. Our inner life, the experiences, the events we have assisted, people we have met, all of this is stored in our memory. Without it, the future there would be not and we would be like an empty shell.
